I posted a while ago about my intention to start a magazine while leaving out the key details in fear of giving up my idea. But now after a month of complete creativity block, I cannot seem to find how to translate my idea into a tangible business and I need help.
My idea came about when I left college to hang out with a few buddies of mine over break. A few of them were having an awful time with girls, some didn't even have enough confidence to look a member of the opposite sex in the eye, let alone approach a complete stranger. My entrepreneurial moment came however when I realized there are alot of guys in this world who don't know how to attract girls. And alot of them stay at home during the weekends and it sucks. And alot of them would probably pay a decent sum to fix this aspect of their life.
I instantly decided I wanted to start a magazine to help with this need, because there were hundreds of "pick-up" and "female attraction" blogs, websites and e-books - but no one started a magazine yet. Probably because it requires more overhead than a book on lulu, and also because this industry is still not quite mature yet for any major publishing company to dedicate an entire publication to it.
I realized from this forum that a magazine would probably not be the smartest idea. I do think that many magazines are folding not because they are simply obsolete now, but because current publishing companies have a huge staff and the smallest decrease in advertising can shut it down. But regardless the magazine industry will probably not be around in the next decade or two.
My problem has developed with my struggle to find the connection between having a good business idea and how it makes money. I could easily transfer this magazine idea into a website, but I don't think online subscriptions would sell with so much free content on the web. And relying 100% on advertising revenue is a scary thought.
I've been having extreme difficulties coming up with a way this idea can work. This is the closest business venture that I have had where I am willing to invest serious money - atleast for my budget. The market is large yet it is a very overlooked one. If anyone would like to throw their 2 cent in I'd welcome any advice I can get.
