My Fallacy
I thought correct understanding = correct action.
I understand many things about the slowlane, but I seem to have trouble breaking some habits. The event mentality is the big one that's killing me right now.
My "Event"
After spending a day making 30 cold calls (monday), I made some really nice connections, and possibly set up some future business and referrals for my marketing consulting 'business' (progress thread in "INSIDERS").
however, I didn't close any deals. Also, my follow-up schedule was ruined by Thanksgiving. Immediately I felt depressed. I gave myself to the end of the month to land at least 1 client, and even though I still have an entire workweek to do so, I feel like I already failed.
My Revelation
I was playing around in Adobe After Effects (Three things give me clarity: Motion graphics, playing guitar, and minecraft) I had a revelation... I was thinking with EVENT based mentality. Calling the customers was supposed to be the event that got me my first client. It was a single action of hard work, which would produce a superior return on effort.
I didn't think I had an event based mentality.. I wasn't waiting for something to happen TO me, I was going out and making the things happen... but I can see now I don't have it quite right.
My Need
It's difficult to get past this mental barrier. It's difficult to move PAST thinking of things as event-based.
Does anybody have any tips on 'breaking me'? Perhaps EXAMPLES of event vs process based thinking? perhaps another way to looking at it, that will help me internalize the concept a bit better?
I thought I understood but I was blind.
