I got off social media a while ago, and honestly, that gave me peace. But there’s something that’s been a lot harder to handle, the people around me.
Most of my friends are focused on uni, and I respect that. But I’m in a different space. I want more than just a degree and a 9-5. I want to build something for myself, a business, a different kind of life.
Yet, whenever I talk about it, I hear the same responses:
"Just finish school."
"Make your parents proud and get a good job."
I get where they’re coming from, but it doesn’t fit my vision. And it’s tough to feel so isolated when the people around me don’t think the way I do.
Plus, I’m the oldest daughter, so I take care of everything at home. Cooking, cleaning, managing things, I feel like I’m constantly stuck in the role of a maid, and it’s draining. I don’t even get time to focus on my dreams. Every time I try to work on something for myself, I’m exhausted.
It doesn’t help that my household feels toxic. There’s a lot of negativity, criticism, and things that drain me. It feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, and I’m stuck in a cycle where I don’t feel like myself anymore.
Some first daughters will get this, others won’t. But I’m sure there are people here who can relate to how heavy this can be.
So I wanted to ask:
- How do you keep your vision alive when you’re constantly balancing responsibility and exhaustion?
- How do you keep going when your home environment feels toxic and drains you?
- How do you stay motivated when you feel like you’re the only one who wants something different for yourself?
- How do you manage to focus on your dreams while taking care of everyone else’s needs?
- And if you’re a first daughter, how do you protect your own peace in a house that doesn't feel supportive?
I know I’m not alone in this. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar or found a way to keep pushing through.
