In other words, how far can you take one of your ideas before you get burnt out, before you stop to refill your head with new ideas, before you start breaking down because you just can't go on any longer?
It's not so much that you get an idea and you later realize that it's not a good idea. You may have the best idea in your industry but some people can only go so long before they stop with one idea, and start with the next. Some people can't go a week on an idea without getting burnt out and filling their head up with new ones.
Well think about it this way, people like cars with good mileage right? Not only do people like cars with good mileage but they WANT cars with good mileage. People and investors like ideas that can go far and have went far. If Mark Zuckerberg developed half of Facebook and then said "I'm tired of this, nobody is going to visit this site anyway" and stopped, then he wouldn't have been successful. If Facebook got bad mileage it wouldn't have been successful. If you have a good idea, and you know you have a good idea but you've been working on it non stop and you've went over a few road bumps and you're getting burnt out, you are taking the EXIT, the exit on the road to success. You are getting off of that road to success and saying "I can't go on any longer, I know this idea can make me a million dollars and I'll be at the end of the road to success in no time if I could just go a little bit longer but I can't".
Well what kind of "ideas" have good mileage? Well who determines the mileage that cars have? The creators do, the people who create and design the cars are in control of how much mileage it can get. You are in control of how much mileage your idea gets, YOU are in control of how far your idea can go not your brother or your best friend, or negative Nancy telling you that you'll never amount of anything in life. I remember a few years ago when I would brainstorm and think of new ideas every single day, I would say THIS is a million dollar idea, THAT is a million dollar idea, every single day. I would get this new idea and then do a little bit of research, do a little bit of work, then think of a new idea and tell myself "I think this idea is better than the last so I'm going to try this one now".
Well none of my ideas lasted longer than a week with that mindset. The only people who are successful are the people who ride their idea all the way to the end of the road to success. This goes for every successful entrepreneur who ever lived, if you quit before you reach the end of the road then you will never get anywhere. If you keep restarting, keep stopping, keep trying out new ideas instead of focusing on the one you've already started then you will likely never be successful.
How many people on this forum have been working nearly every day on a good idea for a year or longer, and how far has that idea took you? Care to chip in your thoughts?
How many people on this forum were like me when I first started out and kept stopping to refill their head with thoughts so that maybe they could get a little bit farther on a new idea than they did on the last? Care to chip in?
How many people are still having trouble getting good mileage on their ideas and taking them far?
I just like to think about this little concept as motivation when I start feeling burnt out, and not just with ideas but with working as well. Sometimes I just want to stop working but I know that if I could just go long enough I will reach my destination soon enough. People who take their ideas the farthest, people who work the longest without an interrupted period of time will be the same people who become successful before you do.
