How to get featured in a large publication such as Inc. Magazine
In 2015 - I was included in the feature story of Inc. Magazine and I would like to share my experience about how I got in there - to see if it can help your business.
At the time, I wasn't sure how it happened. In August of that year, I got an email from one of the employees there asking me to verify details (pulled information out of one of my blog articles.)
How did they get my personal email?
How did I get on their radar?
I had no clue, until now - I'm in Amsterdam visiting another Fastlaner - and she asked me if I ever had any success with HARO (Help a Reporter Out).
Side question - Am I supposed to capitalize the A? Just because normally a is lowercase, but it's HARO. Interesting thought. I'm a writer - I should know this stuff.
Thinking about it, the dots finally connected.
In April of that year, I spent about 3 days sending out replies to inquiries on HARO .
Someone from Inc. Magazine put out an inquiry about if any companies outsourced work before, and I said I did - and included a link to a blog post I wrote on the topic.
No replies.
No replies from any of my hard work with 3 days of HARO.
But then, 4 months later, I get the email, and 3 months after that, I'm featured in one of the biggest magazines out there.
Seven Months Later....think about it.
I wrote this post to share my experience on this for 2 reasons.
1. Persistance - You're going to put yourself out there, and you may be discouraged to give up after a few days without results. Imagine how much more exposure I would have gotten if I spent 6 months.
2. I forget reason #2 But HARO could be a great marketing source if it matches up to your business model.
