so I'm 27 and three years ago my journey to studying self development and entrepreneurship began. But the more I try to progress and challenge myself out of my comfort zone, the more I discover how fu#%#d up emotionally I am. Intellectually I get all is good and perfect, I know what I must do to be social but when it comes to talk to strangers for any random thing (except asking for directions), I'm f%%%#d, it feels so embarrassing, awkward and needy. I guess my biggest fear is fear of embarrassment, perhaps from seeing my parents fight from a really young age at childhood and then later being bullied at school for quite a long time, I've been always the smart-introvert guy. I go along well with friends, people that I know but I'm having a hell of a hard time making new ones or even talking to some stranger in a car or road.
Last night I went to our capital city, spent the night with some friends and today I "decided" I would make a social experiment: to ask 100 random people to rate their mood from 1-10 as a part of my social survey. Guess how many I asked? Zero. Went around the city for 3 hours and couldn't do it.
I mean self-help books are all feel-good stuff and intellectually I get it, however dealing with social anxiety in an emotional level seems to be a whole new level. Nonetheless it all goes to prove that I must deal with it, high priority.
Having a genuine empathy for people but not being able to get out of my head to talk to them, feels like a cage.
Have you guys overcome such issues and do you have any tips that helped you?
EDIT: Tip1 - I probably should have aimed to ask 10 people to begin with, not 100.
