Hey people, long time - no see!
I have a very specific niche question and I`d appreciate if not an answer than at least a bunch of ideas on how you would look for one.
First some short story. I started my entrepreneurial journey 18 months ago as a handyman - went (on foot) to peoples` homes to clear shower clogs. Since than I switched direction several times and it always was: "Well, I am here. Where I can find MORE unmet need and what do I need to learn to do a good job there?" I went from plumbing to cleaning, from cleaning to ceramics, from there to gardening and tree-cutting and after almost a year I seem to find IT. The Holy Grail. The Single Highest Paying Time-Selling Solopreneur Venture Of Them All - Rope access. I am a strong guy with lots of experience with ropes so I thrive there. But I want to move further... So here is the question.
The niche our rope-access services are in most demand in my country is concrete repairs and leak protection. New buildings are erected every hour and they are made of sh*t and sticks. And in a while rainwater starts to pour in. The building is usually still on mandatory (by law) varanty, so the general contractor is usually paying quite well for repairs.
While working in the field I started to see the problem more broadly than just concrete repairs. I see that people are usually suffering from cold and wet winters and that sometimes it is concrete, sometimes the joints between the concrete plates and sometimes it can be windows or AC unit being put in the wrong place.
I want to try and offer a complex solution. I want to be able to come to peoples` homes and to diagnose their "home-climate" problems. To offer concrete repairs to ones and window sealing and heated floors to the others. I want to rush inside with thermovision camera and a band of workers with hammers and make homes warm, reasonably dry, cosy, energy-efficient, and barefoot-friendly.
The problem is that I am no HVAC engineer. I am just a handyman who got on the wall. In the end of 2025 I plan to have 10-20 thousand USD saved, ready for investing and I want to try and get as much knowladge to help me move to this complex idea.
So how would you grasp it? Where to start? Any courses, any reading you can suggest?
