here are some things im struggling with right now
1. I have three ebooks on amazon, cant afford to spend money marketing them due to very limited profit margin per book (about $2 per book sold). If I spend $1000 on marketing I would have to sell 500 books to break even. I have a blog page for each book on typepad, but get very little traffic to the blog pages. Any ideas on how to promote my books?
2. I am a lawyer and operate a mom and pop law firm with my wife. We handle personal injury, and family law and have been in operation since 1997. Due to changing society the personal injury area (which is the only place we make any money) is now crowded with lawyers, and those lawyers are spending $40 million on tv ads and skimming most of the business. Due to the economy cases that pay retainers dont, for example family law, and criminal law are two areas we practice and 90 percent of the customers dont have the money for a retainer in this economy. Law is our primary source of income and the future of it looks bleak. I cant raise my price I tried that and lost customers, they already cant afford me. In personal injury it is a percentage of recovery and fixed by the bar. What to do?
3. We want to start an internet based business while keeping our day job (law) in the mean time. Law is atleast a step above working in a restaurant kitchen and it pays OK money, but not "good money". We want a business that has scale and can produce a couple million dollars for us. We dont aspire to create a billion dollar company, just something reasonable that can make "good money" not necessarily "exceptional money" I recently read the millionaire fastlane and want to implement what I have read, basically utilize scale and stop selling sandwiches to my local town and sell widgets to the world. Any suggestions? I know that the first step is determine what people want, dont start a business based upon what you like, love or think will be a good seller, but what the market needs and wants. Determining what the market needs and wants is daunting.
