Hi Guys,
Let me apologize firstly, as this might be a little long but I need to get it out and talk to some real successful people on here like MJ, Vigilante, Biophase (please respond guys!!!) etc to get my mind in check. Bare with me please.
I've been contemplating, procrastinating etc etc for a while now to start something. You know what lane I'm in right now its the Slowlane and yes I'm a wantrepreneur. Since graduating from Uni with an accounting degree I haven't had a decent job in finance besides being an insurance broker which didn't last too long. Now I'm just working as a customer service advisor...dead end job. You know how it is.
I get scared thinking about the future, I have a family, responsibility, all the good stuff that life throws at you, I've got it all...and I feel I can only change my circumstances and future If i trust myself and work for myself create something and become something so I can finally be proud, I've achieved something.
The reason why I choose the word "something" is because it's ambiguous and right now I don't have a clue what it is I want to do. I'm 26 so time is of the essence.
I don't know if the way I am thinking right now (after reading MJ's book and other entrepreneurial books) is a problem or not, but everything I see right now is DEMAND and SUPPLY. I'm questioning everyone's business model and how they know what they're doing. I'm really curious right now.
I have millions of unanswered questions for example, "how do rappers/artists do their market research for themselves and their "product" - how do they know they will sell?" Why do people pursue music when they know they may stay broke forever? I know it's a passion but you have to make a living here!?
The reason why I ask this question is because these people have all of the odds against them and are inspiring when they make it. I find so many artists who I've never heard of talking about "stacking paper" and flashing everything which shouts out "I'M MADE" that it makes me think there must be a formula behind this venture that they're all following? How else could they all be similarly successful where big record companies find them out? What is it? How do these people know?
Now back to my real question...I'm thinking of selling Physical products. Plain and simple. Now The question I have is basically what should a person like me with no "definable talent/"trade" skill(which you could set up as a service's business)" do?
In terms of the research involved with ("smell what sells") buying and selling for a profit, does it involve the same kind of research as you would for a real niche retail business? What If I just want to make a good living for myself selling niche products but not have the vision of changing the world as everyone views "startups" as? The reason why I ask this is because of the fact that What if I never come across such a problem that could be solved with the resources I currently have?
Buying and selling is all I could do right? as an entrepreneur? Do you know what I am getting at?
Basically I want to be as realistic as I can get with what I can actually do to start selling "something". BUT I WANT TO PROVIDE VALUE, I DON'T CARE IF IT TAKES A YEAR OR TWO BUT I NEED TO KNOW ITS SOMETHING I'M PURSUING WHICH IS GOING TO EMPOWER ME.
I see people making money doing all sorts dipping in and out of this and that so quickly it boggles my mind how quick they do/don't do the research behind assessing risk to make money vs going broke/wasting time WHILST SUPPLYING A DEMAND?
Please help. What is the first step?
