My last boss said to me, verbatim, "I don't want employees who think for themselves" when I dared to question some of her weirder decisions. In a strange way I'm grateful. She made it blatantly clear to me that continuing to work in that environment would damage my creativity, drive, and confidence--probably permanently. The paycheck in this cushy government job was comfortable, but simply not worth what it cost me in time, stress, and frustration. I did what conventional wisdom discourages: I quit last month with nothing lined up, and am taking time to regroup while I decide where I want to go from here. I'm fortunate to have the ability to take some time off to explore, examine, and learn at my own pace.
Ultimately my search has led me to 'Millionaire Fastlane ,' @MJ DeMarco --your words are speaking in a profound way to dreams that I haven't allowed myself to take seriously up to this point. I've mostly followed the instructions dictated by the Slowlane and conventional wisdom: I got the degree from the Ivy League, I picked a job that seemed safe and stable, and I've invested in the "slow and steady" retirement strategy. But I've always felt that more was possible. I'm happy to be here, and am looking forward to deepening my knowledge, with the goal of exchanging that knowledge for a prosperous, freer future. Cheers.
