A while back I posted about how I’d become top salesman in my company. Well, today I’m here to share that I’ve been living in the entrepreneurial G-spot. Kinda.
4 months ago, to the day, I got off a plane in Mumbai India.
A few weeks prior I had my first taste of “F*ck you” when I quit my job. Rather, I quit my sleazebag boss.
I wont get into the details, but the lesson is: When you don’t fall into the consumer scam and increase your lifestyle, you have more freedom than other people can imagine.
The years of eating microwaved ground beef for every meal and driving my shitty Prius next to luxury cars – it was all worth it.
I’ll be honest with you guys, I’ve written this post a few times, but I never quite knew what to say.
I felt I wasn’t in a position to give advice because I hadn’t built a business with income. All I did was get lucky that circumstances in my life led to me being good at sales.
Furthermore, I had no idea what business I wanted to start. I had ideas - web design, copywriting services - but none felt right.
Until I found clarity in Nepal.
I spent a week in a Buddhist monastery, overlooking the Himalayan mountains, with no phone or internet. As you can imagine, I spent a lot of time alone with my thoughts, pondering the past and future.
Without the noise of social media, advertisements, and other people telling me what I should want, I was able to get in touch with my own desires. I still have a long way to go to be truly in tune with myself, but here’s what I concluded.
Those ideas didn’t resonate because they weren’t in line with my natural inclinations.
I started on this path with one goal: escape the 9-5 forever. But after spending 4 months with nothing but freedom, I found something surprising. I really enjoy “working” – but only if it’s on something that I’m interested in.
My plan right now is to keep investing in myself.
Alex Hormozi says there are seasons of learning and seasons of earning. I have another year before I need an income, so I’m going to capitalize on this season by learning Mandarin Chinese.
There’s a quote, attributed to Pablo Picasso, that’s been swimming around my head for the past few months:
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
When I was 3 my parents told me I was gonna grow up to be a lawyer. It took me another 27 years to realize that my gift was communication and persuasion.
Learning the second most common language in the world seems like the highest leverage skill that aligns with my gift.
Furthermore, learning to think in another language will likely open up a whole new view of the world – one that will be invaluable to the sales process and understanding other people and cultures. I hope I’ll be able to share that value with you in future posts.
It’s also the hardest for english speakers to learn so it aligns perfect with the commandment of entry.
Before I go, I want to leave you all with one more thing:
Three weeks from now will be the 1 year anniversary of my FTE.
10 months ago I was delivering packages for Amazon.
8 months ago, my bank accounts were overdrawn.
5 months ago I was working 60 hour weeks.
Today, I’m living in Thailand.
It all happens faster than you think.
If you’re still struggling, still don’t have a plan, still don’t know how you’re gonna escape: that’s ok.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned – and one I still struggle with sometimes – is that you don’t need to know everything at the start.
Just start.
Solve your own problems.
An entrepreneur is just a problem solver at scale, so practice on yourself.
Use the 80/20 rule and find the problem in your life that, if you solved it, would net you the highest return on investment.
For me, I needed time and money. So I made enough money to buy more time and I used geo-arbitrage to leverage how much time I could buy with the money I had.
Get creative. You can’t get 1% results by thinking like the 99%
So, keep going! The G-spot isn’t on a map - you’ve gotta wander a bit to find it – but you’re closer than you think.
