Ok, so first of all I'm 21 years old, and I've had this idea in my head for about 2 years now that I randomly came up with when I was buying condoms for a friend of mine. The business plan is a VERY unique Condom brand/name. I've checked everywhere and the name isn't taken and doesn't even exist, and I've I already bought the website domain.
I understand there are very large competitors out there such as "Trojan", "Durex"...etc, but I feel like the name alone will target and attract a lot of young people. It may seem like a long shot, but anything is possible!
I've already contacted several manufacturers in China and I've gotten prices for 1,000 condoms to as many as 100,000 condoms all with my company logo and information. They will come in a box that is like the boxes Trojan and other brands have but will have my logo and design that I've made on it. I was extremely weary about the quality, because obviously condoms need to be extremely good quality and coming from China...that's hard to come by, but the person I have been in contact with told me that they are "Durex's" supplier and they put each condom through several different tests to make sure they are perfect.
As far as marketing goes, I shouldn't have any problems...I currently go to college in Tampa Florida and the campus is extremely large, with a lot of students. The health clinic at the school offers free condoms and I was planning on asking them if I could market my condoms there so students would see this and then share it with their friends. I was also planning on doing this at schools in Orlando Fl, Miami Fl, and St. Augustine Fl because I have close friends that go there. On the condom wrapper my logo is there along with my website so people can go there and check it out and they can buy the condoms there.
I have some random questions that I obviously need to know before I even think about launching this idea, like is there any type of legality issues I should know about selling condoms i.e. if the condom breaks during intercourse is my company at fault, and can I get sued, and what is my other option so this doesn't happen (besides better quality condoms). Also, I know I need to have my company name trademarked which I planned to do, but wasn't sure where, price doesn't really matter. And if anyone could think of anything else I would have to know before I take my next step!
