In 2008, I was on the DC metro commuting to my dreaded 9-5 job amidst hundreds of gray faces and as I was switching trains at the Metro Center stop I heard a beautiful violin. I stopped and asked the musician if he would be interested in playing the violin at my wedding. He handed me a business card and in a few months was performing at my wedding ceremony. I had to share this experience, as the chapter in The Millionaire Fastlane which took place a year earlier with Joshua Bell, where no one stopped for a beautiful violinist, is so strikingly similar to my experience. I am glad I was still able to hear the music and stop just long enough to invite a talented musician to the most special day of my life.
