Hi guys,
I'm a 22 year old guy from the suburbs of Seattle, WA. For the last year and a half, I've been working at Microsoft on a project with the new Win8 release. If you've seen Win8... don't worry, I think it's a catastrophe too. My main goal with taking a contract their was to gain software development experience. Mission accomplished. Time to move on.
My first entrepreneurial experience was when I was 12 power selling on eBay. After I graduated high school, I was convinced like the rest of the population that college was the only path to success. A year later after attending WSU... I left and so glad I did! My main motivation was Steve Jobs' speech in 2005 at Stanford's graduation. It really, really stuck with me.
Starting on Saturday, I will have 100% of my time back to devote to starting up a successful business. Looking to tap into my skills as a software developer, I've been working on mobile application games using the Unity game engine. I'm hoping to have my first full released game out within a month.
Why I signed up:
I'm young, naive, and inexperienced. While I do believe I have much more experience than many people my age who are just leaving college, it doesn't nearly compare to a person who's been there and done that with everything I want to do. Those are the people I look to for advice, guidance, and inspiration.
I have never had a strong, positive group of friends for my goals. Yes, I have lots of friends, but nearly all of them have an "employee" mentality. Wake up on Monday, go to work till Friday, spend the whole paycheck on booze on the weekend. I couldn't be farther from that, but somehow we stay great friends!
I really want to get up and go somewhere new. Being from Seattle... I'm so incredibly sick of rain! So it shouldn't be a surprise that I really want to move to California. My uncle lives in Sherman Oaks and every time I've visited since my mid-teens, I've said I've wanted to move there. Now is the time.
So here's my question for the long time forum members, I want to get a place (preferably someplace warm) with like minded people. I've talked with several people up here about getting a place together as sort of an entrepreneur's house, but all of them have backed out, flaked, or didn't have the sufficient funds to just drop everything and focus on their dreams. I do and I need that. Moving someplace new would provide me with inspiration, literally just from the weather. How can I go about doing this guys? I'm looking to get some serious networking connections and long term friendships going.
I used to frequent forums when I was younger and am not really sure why it didn't dawn on me to join one again earlier. Better late than never.
Thanks everyone,
David
