I caught the first half hour of the first episode and then set it on record since I couldn't watch the whole thing at that time. It is a show on the history channel.
The Men Who Built America — History.com TV Episodes, Schedule, & Video
One night this week I had about a half hour before I needed to hit the hay and decided to watch a little more of the first episode. An hour and half later I realize that I had gotten drawn in.
It was inspiring to see Vanderbilt and Rockefeller building an empire. Especially Rockefeller because he wes finding new ways to do things so that he could keep making money. The first episode ended with the death of Vanderbilt and a teaser into how Dale Carnegie builds his steel empire.
My biggest take away is that backing yourself into a corner is not always a bad thing. Rockefeller took a chance by pledging 60 barrels a day to be transported by Vanderbilt's train when he could only produce 30. He had to go back home and figure out how to fill that train. This move propelled him out of possible bankruptct and into the big leagues.
I am looking forward to the last 3 episodes.
