I am currently assisting in a craft brewery startup, and we are now at the stage of looking at packaging equipment. We have to choose between a canning line and a bottling line. I have been scouring the internet trying to find out which option is the better choice, which lead me to an interesting poll.
It was an online poll asking beer drinkers if they prefer an aluminum can over a glass bottle. While the aluminum can is a better storage vessel for beer in almost every way, beer drinkers preferred the glass bottle 71% of the time. It seems that beer in a glass bottle has the perception of higher quality.
I thought this was a simple but good lesson on the importance of being aware of customer perceptions. As a result, we will now be going with a bottling line instead of canning. :cheers:
