Hey Everyone,
first please excuse my grammar & punctuation I slept through those classes.
So, I read the book a little while ago -Great read btw! I think I can say what the book has done for me thus far has simply validated many personal beliefs that have been floating around my head for awhile but I have had no way to confirm these ideas because of the resistant and closed minds that frequent my life only offer simplistic and dull advice.
I'm young 24 and have run a technology consultancy since I was 18, although it only started out as computer repair company, its slowly grown into a b2b tech company also offering a wide range of security solutions. But its absolutely no where close to where I wanted it to go. After reading this book I've decided to hold onto my tech company to maintain financial security so that I can develop another venture that reflects all of the commandments.
So you'll probably see me floating around the forum trying to get advice on VCs, business process modeling, programmers, SEO, trend analysis, etc..
When I was younger I attended college for a short period, i was acing my classes in technology not even really studying, although I know my circumstances are rare as I've been fiddling with technology since I was about 9 years old, I quickly realized that school was a business system preceding a life of servitude while also realize I could obtain these abilities on my own.
I worked for a large technology company when I was 17 and quickly discovered my path to entrepreneurship when I would go to my managers (who were sometimes twice and even 3 times my age) and ask them for their advice only to be met with "I don't know, you're the expert!" At $11.55 an hour but pulling in $600-$1k an hour for the store I quickly realized I was a slave. I realized I could do all this myself and keep all the profits.
Although sometimes money has been good, I've never made a consistent & predictable revenue stream. Some seasons are good and some are not. So I've been trying to find a balance through a measurable systems approach to every business action I perform. Finding such a system with no prior expertise in these methodologies has mostly led me on a goose chase. From simple analysis systems to advanced interactive project management systems there is always pieces missing, which often land even more unqualified people in my office to pick up those pieces in turn wasting valuable time and cost. I am also disinterested in marketing which I know has hurt me. Basically I wear too many hats in my company. I have great technical ability but lack basic skills for running a business but I am getting there! This system I've been looking for I believe I've found in this book! I am currently applying the laws & commandments to my structure simply because it makes sense! Its a non-speculative / no bullshit approach to business foundation & actions.
Also the personal advice the book gives has awaken me to those slowlaners, high-jackers & hitchhikers.. I consider this my main struggle! i've not met ONE PERSON around my age interested in what i do let alone coming close to even understanding it. For my entire life it seems I've had to dumb myself down if I ever wanted to see an ounce of friendship or companionship which im sure all of you can guess has pulled only the fray into my life in turn causing major disruption & sometimes deep pitfall =( I am very curious how you guys many of you already successful and many of you young & striving to be, How have you handled and endured through that lack of connection with other people? Or is this issue I face exclusive to my area (NJ, USA) ? Thanks for any advice!
I hope to become an asset here while also learning & sharing as much as I can.
