Hello, I run a shopify store selling high volume/ low margin used electronics. Well, the volume hasn't been the highest lately either. I've been a lurker on the site for a couple of years and just finally bit the bullet to join.
I have a shift-work job in the Utilities Department of a large industrial plant for my main income. Shift work has really been kicking my a$$ lately and I want out.
I started this store a few years ago and have put tons of time and effort into it. It gets about 5k visitors per month but most traffic goes to pages I've set up for content. Fortunately not all is lost there, I get about $50/mo from Adsense.
I used to do a lot of sales (well, up to 10/day) by pushing my product listings to ebay. I hate ebay and their cesspool of scammers nowadays. My low margins were even lower by doing this and just wasn't making enough money to make it worth it so I bailed.
I have also had success with my own site with Google Shopping Campaigns but mostly with other people's products that I drop-shipped. Their product listings were better than mine (higher quality photos) and they had a larger inventory of each of their individual products.
My inventory is high but spread out over 2k listings or so with a 1 or 2 units of each product. Ads do not make sense for this reason. I get all of my traffic organically these days. I also have a huge amount of inventory that I haven't listed due to time constraints that I have sitting around in a storage unit.
I guess the main reason I'm here is to hold my self accountable. I think I know what has to be done but have been dragging my feet on it for several reasons, mostly financial but also lack of knowledge.
For this to be truly fast-lane I need to source and sell my own products. This has its own bag of issues though. Drop-shipping is possible but is a garbage idea due to the shipping times. Also there are a gazillion of cookie-cutter mold products on ebay and Amazon. Keeping large amounts of inventory would be risky and I would have to find a way through the noise. I'm determined to work this all out though.
Thank you guys for all you do here and I'm glad to be part of the community. Hopefully I'll have a progress thread and success story of my own to post soon.
See you guys around!
