Hi guys, posted a few times but never introduced myself.
My name is my username, tho you can call me Ed. I'm a 20 yr old comp sci student living alone as I work at a min wage job and today I got fired.
Irresponsible! How do you get fired from a min.wage job?
Yeah I hear it now. But let me give you some context. I work at a fastfood chain for min wage and the owners/managers are the ones who only hire high schoolers so they can legally pay below min wage. People quit every two weeks so they're always hiring. They don't give a crap about our schedule and schedule us on school days in case "we might want to help out".
Yeah but you still got fired for a reason. Stop deflecting the question.
Fair enough. My immune system isn't the best so I've had a few times where I had to call in sick. I worked sick a few times already (yes, at a place where you handle food they make you work while sick) and today was one of those days. Except for today, after getting a feel for it, I called in sick.
Needless to say, for people who worked at slavery wage, a simple "I can't come" isn't enough, and as it's my second time calling in sick, my worked called me out. I live 40 mins from work and I am not working while sick at this temperature. My mistake is not calling 4 hrs before my shift (I called 1 hr before) but I woke up and realized I couldn't work and there's not really much I could do unless I could predict that.
So how F*cked are you exactly?
Very. As I write this I have $100 in my bank acc (after deducting credit debt), and only enough cash and stored food to last for the month. I pay my bills in the first of the month, so today my rent/bills for February have been paid for. That being said I have no money for March.
What's your plan then?
Last month, exactly new years day, I stumbled upon @Fox 's post about web design. I instantly bought the course and finished it. After a few days of working and exams, I plan to take action and use the extra free time that my old job used to take.
You're not gonna make it son.
True. I might not. Worst case scenario? I borrow money from my family while I look for another slow lane job and save up on summer time. Best case scenario? I pay my own bills with money that I can then scale and learn from.
Now what?
I will now post my progress here. I will update this thread constantly with dates and what not.
I will mark exactly what I do, for how long, and when I did it. What I struggled with etc.
I will be basically a living example of @Fox 's thread, only I'm depending my livelihood in this.
Good luck, you'll need lots.
Thanks. My posts, actions and results/progress will be posted throughout.
