Hello All!
I have been wracking my brain for years for a “bigidea†that I could build a business on. I decided to read MJ’s book afterseeing how favorably rated it was on amazon. What a great investment!
MyStory
I’m a veteran (8 years as an infantryman in theArmy) with multiple deployments. I finished my commitment in 2005, after I camehome from the invasion of Iraq. I spent a few years as a Correctional Officerbefore making a switch to the corporate world. I did very well at fixingunprofitable branches by systemizing the front-end and automating the back-end.Every time I fixed what others had said was un-fixable I would receive apromotion. In two years I had gone from a trainee, to an assistant manager, toa branch manager of a small location, to a branch manager of a large location, toan area manager of 5 locations.
Sounds great, right?
After 5 promotions in 2 years I was in a perpetual stateof “pissed offâ€.
The reason? I had become jaded by a frustratingpattern. Each promotion came with a substantial increase in accolades, responsibility, time demands and challenges. What they did not come with was a substantialincrease in pay. My branches were posting record breaking profits for the areaand I was making $250 more per month than the day I started as a trainee.
The short of it is, I quit. I was sure I could gointo business for myself and make great money. I didn’t know what business, butit didn’t matter. I knew it would come to me.
That was two years ago.
I don’t have a business. The “big idea†conundrum haslead me to paralysis by analysis. I’m an INTJ, the system builder of theMyer-Briggs personalities. I’m the Mechanic of the Wealth Dynamicspersonalities. I have helped three friends return their businesses toprofitability and automate their back-end. I poke holes in systems, improvethem, test them, and tinker with them. What I don’t do is come up withsomething original or unique. This has been so frustrating that I havecontemplated just going back some kind of management position and accepting thingsas they are.
That is why finding this book has been so eye openingfor me. I’m a system builder! I’m an executer! Process is my passion. I loveimproving on things, I become obsessed with it. I don’t need a unique idea.Ideas are everywhere. I simply need to reverse engineer someone else’s poorlyexecuted idea and fix the system. That’s what I’m naturally great at!
So, I am committed to evaluating someone else’sidea, measuring against scale and magnitude and then blowing their a$$ out ofthe water.
Thanks MJ for such a great book.
