Well time to face one of my fears and just let loose. One of my biggest fears is letting one of my ideas slip and someone else implementing it, thus being one of those "i thought of that first, but so and so made money off of it". While I feel some type of creative protection is necessary, I believe it was Russ who stated that "ideas are cheap" and I've been realizing in the last month that ideas are a dime a dozen and most of all, the only way someone "steals" your idea is if they work harder and smarter to implement it, thus they deserve the credit anyways.
So without further ado, here goes-
I have worn glasses for 4yrs now and one of the major benefits of contacts over glasses that I've come to realize despite the fact that they don't break(sometimes they tear though) or fall off(rarely fall out) is that covering the retina means a major visual benefit over glasses- vision is corrected at ALL angles including peripheral vision which is not corrected with glasses.
So my idea is simple- what if you could create a lense that corrects this?
I know it already exists in the form of wrap-around sunglasses, but it seems that the idea hasn't caught on to prescription glasses(some Rx sunglasses probably have this feature).
The design would be a lens that covers the entire eyesocket(similar to some sports goggles), possibly of a lexan or other shatterproof/lightweight plastic and would be incorporated into a new-age frame style.
One of the objections I thought of is- "won't those look ugly?" and my solution is some type of market research to see what the reception of such a design is, possibly consult with some fashion experts as most eyewear is bought out of "style" over function.
On top of that, function is important and I would most likely need an optician who specializes in lense design to perfect this.
Then it's on to production and marketing... but most of all, making sure that I can license this idea so that even if I can find an optician to do the design and patent it, that I will still have some involvement and can capitalize off of this.
Any input is appreciated and I would definitely like to know fanocks view on this as it seems my intentions are similar to those he has on the herbal tea idea... I might not necessarily invent it, but I want to license and market this. Not only b/c I know it can be a huge success, but more importantly it solves a MAJOR problem that the millions who wear glasses endure.
