Inventors: Drafting Software (CAD) suggestions?

As stated before, I dabble in lots of areas, but my children are to thank for my latest venture. I've never really considered myself an inventor, so to speak, but I ran into a situation where I may have found a "need."

For design, I am already set on measurements and, now, I need to come up with a design draft. I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything definitive. I've also browsed around the internets and didn't really find anything software-wise that fit the bill. I did, however, download Google's "SketchUp" but haven't sat down to work the ins and outs of it yet.

For any of you who have been in design or have experience drafting up a sketch for a prototype of a product, I am curious as to what you all are using and whether you might have a suggestion. The product I am working on currently will be something that is injection molded. I could sit down and draw it up on paper, but feel that a digital layout is going to better suit what I need to move forward with and I really want to be able to do it myself.
