Is it possible to create a fully automated or semi automated eCommerce store?

I am currently working as a manager at a auto dealership but I would like to start an online business that is semi automated that will allow me to work until it becomes profitable (I AM TIRED OF WORKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE !! LOL )I already have the business plan, I just did not know if it was possible to automate an eCommerce business. If anyone has experience insight would be great..
