I don't know which is the most appropriate forum to post this to so I apologise in advance.
Short background: 25 years old / No kids or wife. I was born in a third world country and ever since I was young I never saw myself living there. The pollution, traffic, people, government, strict religious rules and just the overall lifestyle there just make me sick and depressed. I have a degree in Computer Science and some experience working as a software developer. It is a high demand skill so I used that as my golden ticket to move to another country, Australia to be specific. I got a company sponsored visa so I was able to live here. As soon as I moved here, my lifestyle greatly improved and my depression was cured cause I love it here. I felt like I found the place where I belong.
But there is a price for everything, in order to keep my visa, I have to walk the Slowlane (it has a restriction that you have to keep working for the company that sponsors you). I love everything I do outside the office but every single minute of my work makes me sick because I keep thinking to myself, "I should be working on my Fastlane dreams" not sucking up to my bosses and building there dreams. My main issue was time (like most of us). The only time I have to work on my Fastlane dreams is after working hours. I told myself I'll just have to wait 1 more year till I become a permanent resident then I would be free but this isn't my main problem.
My worst nightmare came last March. Due to the Covid pandemic, our company cut-off a lot of people including me. Now I'm really lost because in order for me to keep living here I have to find another job that would sponsor my visa (usually, it's already difficult to find one that sponsors but now it's 100x more difficult with the pandemic). I had some interviews but I got rejected. I also don't have motivation to find a new job because I know I won't be able to perform 100% cause I don't really like working in Slowlane and I should be working on my Fastlane dreams. Now I'm in danger of going back to my country (and a lot of people our dying due to the virus)
My question is, does anyone here has a similar situation where they don't like the country they live and found ways to simultaneously work on their Fastlane dreams while being able to migrate to a new country? Is that even possible? Of course, I'd prefer to do that in Australia but doing that in another country is fine as well (depends on the country). Our country's passport is one of those passports that has minimal power so we can't easily get working holiday visas (even getting a tourist visa to Australia is a long work) and the best way for me to move into another country is to get sponsored as a Software Developer.
I'm currently building an app that I would be selling soon and I'd love to build that while living in another country not my home country.
