So after being laid off or having a contract ended for the 3rd time in 2 years, I am just flat tired of the whole game. I have spent 9 of the last 18 months unemployed and it is killing me. I have a family of 6 to support and that just is not possible on unemployment. Over the past few months, I have started reading some blogs that talk about being able to work for yourself and the idea has been in my head since.
I have a pretty extensive history of working in call centers doing technical support and have just started to get into senior level IT positions in the last 3 years. I have a fairly in depth knowledge in some areas of IT but have novice levels in others which is hurting me in the business world. I also have some programming experience, albeit in the form of education not commercial experience, but I am trying to teach myself C# at this time. I have built a couple of blog based websites using blogspot and wordpress in the past as well as a site that my wife used to use for her short lived photography business. I am also 2 classes shy of finishing up a MIS degree with a project management focus so when it comes to business, I have a decent level of knowledge already.
One thing that I have been able to get really into in the past is being able to play virtual markets to make profits in a virtual environment. Yes that means video games... But, I have always done quite well I think and have for years wondered if that was something that could translate into real world results. Unfortunately the idea of buying low and selling high on an auction site like Ebay is a bit more difficult than in the closed world of a game.
So anyways, here I am... I am here to learn, to collaborate and hopefully to find my way into a lucrative lifestyle. Any feedback, positive or negative is appreciated.
