Hi there!
Born and raised in a dormant Italian village (the kind of town you see on postcards that retired Britons drool on after retirement). Pretty much 99% of the people there has a slow/sidewalker mindset.
After spending the first 5 post-high school years travelling, while I was hitchiking around the south of Mexico, a thought struck my head : while I was travelling hundreds of miles each month, I had no direction whatsoever.
After the teenage years' desire of travelling to discover the world had burnt out, I found myself going around with no direction and actually incapable of picking one.
Eventually started reading anything I could put my hands onto about business, thanks to my dad's influence, who used to be a real estate investor turned into agriculture investor after 2007 crisis.
DeMarco's book (any Italian heritage there? lol) has been one of the best title that I've read so far.
Overall I consider it in my top 5 books about changing your life, second only to Napoleon Hill's "Think & Grow Rich" (which I've been re-reading on and off pretty much every week since last year).
In facts, it has given shape to a lot of concepts that were already sprouting in my head but that I troubles communicating to others.
As of today, I don't even lose time communicating with sidewalkers, unless they're asking for help - wish I had the same kind of direction when I started out looking for one last year.
I've been working as a FBA seller in the past and acted as a fresh truffle dealer (the well sought-after tubers, not the chocolates :O ) in London for the past season building b2b business based solely on cold calling and learnt a whole lot in the process.
Now I itch to find a new product to sell on the phone.
Thought about becoming a Gourmet food online merchant after stupidly follow friends' advice and have turned to offering productized graphic design help/support.
I still think the gourmet online industry is a huge opportunity, but I profoundly believe in bootstrapping my businesses, so I will wait until I have enough capital to fund the project.
As a matter of fact, I decided to start commenting on the forum after re-reading the chapter about the MasterMind group on "Think and Grow rich", and thought that it described perfectly this forum and its users.
I'm still amazed of how visionary and ahead of his time this book is after being published more than 80 years ago.
Hope to take a bit of time to start my own progress thread soon, as it's time to jump from the Wantpreneur's limbo to Entrepreneur's Inferno ASAP.
