Hi,
I've been a member for a while but not as active as I'd like to be. Thought I should post the obligatory intro then start contributing more. Here is a little bit about me.
35 years old, been relatively successful in the corporate world, got a decent salary in the slow lane, but striving to get out and move into the fast lane for all the obvious reasons.
Over the past few years I've had many attempts in business. Some better than others.
Web design business - This was my first real attempt and I made a very common mistake. Built fancy website, got business cards, bought everything you could think of. Even bought a new desk and chair for an office. Felt like I was going places but never got one single customer. Did it all the wrong way around but learned an important lesson.
Ebay - Went from zero to power seller/top rated seller in a few months. Within about 6 weeks I was making about $3000 profit per month selling information products. Got tired after a while and realised it was just another job. Spending hours replying to customer emails, posting items, etc. Very slow lane but I did learn a lot about branding, adding value, and how to differentiate yourself from competition.
Affiliate Website 1 - Got excited by the high affiliate commissions from hosting companies. Built a hosting review and information website for about $200. Made about $600 in sales first few months then got bored. Sold on Flippa for about $400. Learned a LOT about online marketing!
Affiliate Website 2 - Tried another hosting website. This time I offered cash back bonuses to new customers. E.g. I get $100 commission, pay then $50 cash back. Started it for about $200, made about $300 in few months, got bored and took it offline to focus on something else. I actually still think this was a good idea and the site was good. I should have given this one more time but got bored.
There were a few more but don't want to bore you with detail. Right now I'm working on a new lead generation website. Much more fast lane than the others!
Although none of these ventures were very successful I sure learned a lot. Hopefully I can share some of my learning with this great community and add some value.
Thanks!
