First off hello everyone and I’m really excited to be here!
Have had TMF in my Audible library for a while now and only just started listening and wow, what a refreshing (and much needed) punch in the face with reality!
In fact I’ve read and listened to MANY of the best, latest and greatest, business/personal development books out there and there was something just a little bit different about this book.
That (seemingly) little difference is the reason I’m here and I feel like it was no mistake that I found this book at this exact time in my life.
Who am I: I have a cooperate background and spent most of my adult life working a J.O.B. that I loved...for only about the first five or so years.
Totally my fault, mainly because I became stagnant, lazy and comfortable.
All on me.
I didn’t invest in my own personal growth (although I’ve always been somewhat of a growth hacker), and just ticked all the boxes and always did just enough.
About 8 years ago, I was given the choice of another job (same company) or taking a retirement package (I was early 40’s at the time).
I chose the latter.
What was I going to do now?
With several years salary as a cushion, and a family to support, I started brainstorming...
What was I passionate about?
What was I good at?
What would I DO?
I was always fascinated with online businesses, particularly marketing and branding, so I dove in and started learning.
I am also a decent writer so I started learning the art of copywriting as well.
I did several things for myself but none of them really amounted to anything.
When I started working to help others build their businesses, I quickly found great success.
Well...I guess it really depends on your definition of success.
I found great monetary success, but I was locked into a situation where I had very little control...
...almost as if I painted myself into a corner.
After successfully growing one company from practically nothing to multiple millions, I learned that while I was promised the world, I was really nothing more than an employee.
Giving everything I had, late nights, weekends, holidays, etc, etc, I put everything I had into growing someone else’s business as if it were my own.
I accept full responsibility for that and blame no one but myself.
So while I’m good at helping others grow their brands and businesses, I seem to stumble when it comes to creating my own vehicle.
Why is that? Is it fear? Self doubt? Low self esteem?
Maybe
I’m currently working on these areas and will continue to work on the areas where I feel I am lacking.
Since going through TMF , I feel a renewed sense of confidence and believe I WILL find the right path for me.
Whatever that path may be.
Anyways, thank you for listening and thank you @MJ DeMarco for a great book that has already made a bigger impact on me then any book in recent memory.
I look forward to learning, sharing, giving, and helping where I can here.
Thanks!!
Rick
