When you are in the pre-selling stage for a new software product, when is it time to actually hire a developer? Is one paying customer enough?
My situation: After talking to maybe 10 businesses, 3 had indicated they were ready to put money down. One of these actually has and is really excited. One of them is just really reluctant to pay for something she's not using but otherwise very keen. There's been a bit of interest in it outside of this and it *appears* that it will work. So far I've only been using mockups to sell it, no real 'pitch' as such.
There's two schools of thought that seem to collide:
1. Just get something out as fast as you can and get people using it
2. Pre-sell the hell out of it before development
Where do you draw the line between these?
