Wow. Really loved the book. Great stuff MJ. It said a few things that I had been telling my wife for a while, but had never heard other places.
For example, the concept that you just cannot grow income at a job even remotely at the level of a business no matter how much of a badass you are. Even if you are a badass, that is no guarantee you'll get the "big" raises of 10%-20% or so. I came up with and executed an idea that will save my company $300,000-$500,000 every year last year. Guess how big my raise was? 2.5%!!!! :cuss: My boss's boss at the time didn't like me a whole lot due to a miscommunication earlier in the year. Ugg. MJ's concept of what happens when you lack control over your own future hit me in the head really hard here too.
Anyway, I'm an engineer with a Masters degree in my field and all the debt that comes with it. I've been working for a big company that you've likely heard of for the last 6 years. I've wanted to quit for the last 4.
I've wanted to be an entrepreneur since college, but never really knew what to do and the path I was on didn't seem so bad until my job started sucking my soul out. I've tried a handful of things over the years. 2 years ago I started a website that is now starting to see real success -- $1200 revenue/month from $100/month at the beginning of 2011.
I almost gave up on the site about 15 months ago! Whew.
I want to take my savings and cut from my company and give it a go full time...but I have a toddler and another on the way, so it scares my wife when I say "I'm done" with my job and want to quit yesterday.
She's known since we met that I wanted to quit, so it is no surprise. Also, she's a psychologist so she could support the family on her own if we absolutely had to.
Mulling over waiting until February when the baby comes and we get our yearly bonus (prob be about $7-10k). She wants me to wait. I don't want to spend 1 more minute working for someone else.
Anyway, I want to thank MJ for a great book and I'm excited to look through all the threads here.
Thanks,
David
