Hello from New Zealand.

A little background on my journey to date.
Born and bred in New Zealand but spent the last 15 years in Australia, returned to NZ for family reasons earlier this year.
Qualified in the Auto Trade but had a strong interest in sales...the trade was a fall back position (My father said you must have a trade, so if anything goes wrong you will always have something to fall back on)
Entered the sales arena as a junior and aspired to get to the top...successfully achieved this when I was asked to take over the most senior role in the company some 15 years ago, this meant a move to Australia.
After 10 years at the top I started to doubt whether this was what I really wanted, an unexpected major operation gave me some real time to think (Forced layoff for several months).
Once cleared for work I decided I didn't want to return to the position and resigned.
Why you may ask, well the job was all consuming, 24/7 and your time was taken up in the main being concerned about the welfare of others (110+ staff) and the pressure to perform.
The trappings of the job were good, great salary and all the perks but there was no personal satisfaction something I should have acknowledged much earlier.

I was next approached by a related company I knew and was asked to act as a Consultant and oversee a restructure and strengthen up their ties with their Chinese suppliers...which involved many trips to China (A very interesting experience but that's another story) I signed a three year contract and enjoyed every minute of it...effectively only worked on an average of three days a week and this allowed me to follow other interests.

On completion of the task my wife and I returned to NZ to be closer to family as they are in the later years of their life.
I'm into the second half of my life now, over 50 but not yet at the pension age, I have set up a small business which keeps me occupied, life has been good in many respects (I'm self funded) but I can't just stop work...I need new challenges and ultimately this is how I ended up here.

Sorry MJ (I will buy your book, I have read the first two chapters) but it was Walter Hay that brought me here, researching for information on importing from China linked to a post here, looking around I found a lot of like minded motivated people posting so here I stay.
I'm looking forward too interacting with you all, I will share what I can...

Cheers
