So, we had a vacancy in June. Person decides to rent unit sight unseen (moving from out of town). Sends money (includes $300 for "holding place," $200 cleaning deposit and $217 prorated rent). The person chooses June 24th to move in, so the place sits vacant most of the month, but we agree.
On the day expected, person calls to say not today, u-haul truck was not available. 3-4 days later (after many calls left unanswered) we receive note in the mail, saying sorry not moving.
About 10 days later, email is received and person wants money back. $200 cleaning deposit is mailed.
The person then returns uncashed $200 check and threatens us with small claims court. Not too worried, but consult a lawyer friend who confirms we are right and sends person a "pull no punches" letter about representing us and how we could sue for more, etc.
I feel the letter from the lawyer was a bit much, as I only wanted to confirm we were not breaking the law, but...
I hope that's the end of the story. What do you think?
