Started my first progress thread about 3 years ago, and while I could continue that it, I thought I'd start fresh and focus on a specific project instead. I think my first thread was plagued by over-thinking, over-planning, too many ideas, and simply not enough focused action.
---
For this project, I plan to launch an ebook that I'm co-authoring with a friend. About 2 years ago we created an online course on Udemy (an educational marketplace for video courses). We put about 1 month of "work" into the course, and it's been generating about $3k/year since then. I didn't take any percentage then, because it was more just an experiment to help a friend and see if it works. The guy is somewhat of an authority in his field, and he just hasn't put enough time into marketing himself online. I think he could make loads more if he created the right products. The market is really untapped, but the Udemy course validated that people will buy his material.
Now it's time to refine/revise the sloppy video course into an ebook and sell it on a separate site, where Udemy doesn't take a 50% cut. We will offer an affiliate program, with a 30% cut at most, mostly as a means to leverage advertising on relevant sites. This time, I will be taking a 50% cut, but for my friend it will be an additional revenue stream, so he doesn't mind. He will also be offering his services on the website, of which I will take a lead generation fee of $100/lead (each lead will generate a minimum of $500).
My role in this project is to act as editor and web master / digital marketer. He will be in charge of revising the book and creating content for marketing materials. We plan to launch by September 15. I'm hoping to update this thread each time we complete one of the deliverables, as a means to hold ourselves accountable to making progress.
