This morning I was struggling, trying to think what exactly I want to do with my business. My planning is weak and this is really my first endeavor that I am going to follow through with to the end.
I stumble upon some competition: a very successful company I have never heard of. They do all of they're own R&D and design. They have been crowd funded 100k and have an amazing team behind them, all products manufactured in the USA. Their website is beautiful. Mine hasn't even started to come together. They have so much experience. How am I going to compete. I have no experience.
Screw this.
I went for an uphill walk for 20 minutes into the fog of early afternoon as I observed things I never had before. All the houses were empty, everybody out at work.
I think about how huge the market is, how it is growing so fast. I think about creating compelling marketing and copy on a good product. Choosing one good product at a time.
I don't have the experience, funds or connections that these serial-entrepreneurs have. My company may not be as successful in the future. But all in all, if I put everything into this I should be able to make an extremely good living. I can start more companies, gain more experience. Great. I feel good.

Stories aside, one of the most valuable skills I have developed is picking myself up when I am in a slump as fast as possible. I have learned this skill over the years by being prone to nasty bouts of depression. Learning to pull myself out, think positive has made my life so much better I can't even tell you, and when this skill is used in business, it will save you, if you are anything like me. It will also reduce your downtime.
Now going for a walk or a run is something that I have just started doing and I must say, helps the process of picking yourself up even more.
So to anybody who has trouble getting out of slumps: learn to recognize them as negativity, think of all the things you have going for you and go for a walk!
I'm sure this has been said before but it can't hurt to be said again!
