Bob and Jim go see a movie about flowers together.
What happens:
Bob sees a moving documentary about flowers -----> bob decides to buy flowers -----> bob plants flowers and takes care of them --- flowers die
Jim thinks Bob is such a loser. Jim goes home.
--
--
What happened after 1 week for Bob.
Bob educated himself about flowers.
Bob trained his patience.
Bob learned about soil and minerals, researched fertilizers. He realized how complex the subject was and how much it required his focused attention.
Bob realized that taking care of a flower is like have a pet or child. It needs constant care. Bob gained maturity.
Bob met a lovely florist. They chat quite a while and his "passion" for flowers brings them closer every minute. She teaches him a whole lot about flowers during the time that they date.
One day, Bob couldn't decide between the right fertilizer.
It's too late. Bob's flowers died miserably.
Bob gains experience. He won't be fooled so easily next time.

What happened after 1 week for Jim.
Jim played The Witcher 3.
Jim: Man, time flies by!!
--------------------------------------
So what I'm trying to say is that even though the end result after one week seems to be "nothing" for both, a whole lot of life has actually happened for Bob and not for Jim. One lived and the other one didn't (by my standards).
