Hello Fellow Fastlaners...
I've been perusing the site now for a few months, but haven't joined until now for one reason or another. The reason I've opt'd to join at this point in time.. I need help... and what better place to look, then with like-minded individuals.
Here's my problem... I have a revolutionary idea.. absolutely brilliant (yes, I'm well aware that I'm not the first or last person to think his/her idea is great). It utilizes existing technologies that are in their infancy stages as well as ideas that are well over 100 years old. This particular product/idea is not on the market yet (not to say that someone else isn't already developing something similar).. so obviously I'd like to be first to market.
Without divulging too much about the idea itself, it's based around the 'check-in' technology that Foursquare.com has made popular. (Anyone know if this is patented? Would it matter if it was as I know other companies are beginning to utilize it?) I'd like to develop a piece of software (desktop and mobile) that utilizes a users location and uses the "likes" and "dislikes" of the individuals using the software. There are some other parts to the equation that I'll leave out for now, but will require partnering with existing companies or developing similar applications.
I feel like I have the connections necessary to develop and make this a reality (save for the money aspect at the moment--I'm not interested in draining my 401k), as I work for a very large company that has teams of developers on staff and are all highly trained individuals. Honestly though.. I have no idea where or how to start. I've talked to one person about it, who I'd like to see play a CTO type role, but he's got his own problems with work, life, etc... He's the smartest person I know personally (highly skilled and highly educated) but when told of the idea, while he thinks it's fantastic and even offered up his own spin on where it could eventually go, I don't sense the desire from him to be fully vested. Meanwhile, I come home at night and can't stop thinking about this.
I don't feel I can do this on my own.. with as fast paced as the world and technologies evolve, I want to get moving on this idea and start to put together a game plan. It's been brewing for months now and I have nothing to show for it. I have a day job that requires my full attention and sometimes days can go 12-20hrs long. I need to find the right individuals to help and be a part of something big. From research, development, design, programming, management, investments, marketing...you name it.. I need the help.
Having the motivation to just be a millionaire isn't enough though. I need to find people with the motivation and the skills.. I really couldn't care less about the money part of this idea right now. I just want to be a part of something big... to say I did that.. or I was a part of that. To see an idea go from a seed to something that is so embedded within our society, we one day look back and think about how we ever got along without it. The money, in my eyes, will come regardless. Ever since graduating college, I've been in a position that has made me pretty good money.. I'm smart, educated, and I work hard for it....nothing I haven't earned....for some reason I just have a blockage when it comes to this... and I'm well aware of it. I don't want to see another idea come and go.. and think what could have been...or say to myself or to my friends.. "yeah, I thought of that a couple of years ago..".
