I posted something like this maybe a year ago, but things are a bit different now. Basically my older kids, ages 15, 14, 12, and 10, are interested in making a little bit of cash. They are hard workers and great kids overall! They are especially good at cleaning.
An idea I thought about was taking care of the billing, local marketing and communications, and scheduling them to clean for clients on the weekends. This is certainly NOT fastlane, as they would be trading their time for money, but I think it might be a great lesson to understand how a very tiny business operation would work. They could rake in the fall, mow in the summer, shovel in the winter, clean houses, small offices, water flowers and take care of pets when people are gone etc.
They are eager to go do something and earn cash so this might be a good opportunity. I am a bit mixed though. I feel since it is not fastlane that I could be teaching them better lessons and that maybe we could focus on something bigger, but look at their ages... I think starting them out with some good work ethic and knowing what it's like to trade time for money is not a horrible thing. I have 4 younger kids and another on the way and as they grow and become older they can step in and take over clients etc.
So it's either that or try to focus on something more scaleable. Thoughts anyone?
