I'd like to officially introduce myself, finally. lol I've been a LONG time lurker now. A lurker indeed, but as the title suggests, it hasn't been without action.
First I'd like to do the shout outs to all those I've lurked on and have helped me enormously. Of course @MJ DeMarco for the awesome book and forum! @Iwokeup for his progress threads, one of the first ones I read that really inspired me. @Kak for all you've done and shared, and the crazy stories. @Vigilante, @SinisterLex @Andy Black and more recently @Fox. I'm sure there's many, many more too! They've all been a TON of help and inspirational.
Please forgive me if this seems disjointed or ramble-ly as I'm trying to recount everything from the past couple (few?) years.
I am by no means close to the fastlane yet, but I hope I'm going in the right direction now.
I came across the book in the comment section of some passive income blog. One of the people who commented was raving about some Millionaire Fastlane book and basically denying everything the blog post was saying about easy ways to make passive money instantly. lol Had to check it out.
I joined the forums shortly after and was inspired to DO something. I went though the "wantrepreneur" phase and basically just consumed a bunch of threads on the forum and even joined the INSIDERS at one point. Eventually I decided to start something.
First thing was t-shirt designs. After a bunch of orders, some mediocre designs and a lot of left over shirts, I re-evaluated and decided not to pursue it as further.
I have always been pretty adept with computers, so I tried learning some HTML and CSS. I got most of the basics down when I some friends came to me about starting a Ruby on Rails study group. I thought it would be a good idea and learned that as well. Turned out the study group never really happened as all of the friends involved always seemed to have an excuse as to why they couldn't make the group. It ended up being just me studying on my own.
I was also going to the entrepreneur's club at our local collage while my wife was taking a few classes and our daughter was enrolled as well. I met a lot of great and helpful people there. They even helped me start my first LLC. It was going to be an eCommerce store.
However, while I was setting all that up, an opportunity came by.
The owner of one of the local businesses around us that my wife and I liked to go to was kinda close with my wife. Not real friends, but they would always talk to each other a lot every time we went to her business. She confided in my wife that she was getting older, he kids had all grown up and moved away and she was tired (the business is a nighttime business). She said she wanted to move back to her home town and retire. She also said that we should take over her business when she left and she'd give us a good deal.
....
I just realized this is getting pretty long. lol I'll continue the rest a little later.
