Here's an easy way to make a few hundred a day for you newbies bootstrapping, I made a little over 10,000 in a couple months. Very simple stuff.
Here's how I did it.
Step 1: Got myself a well-written sales letter, titled "Marketing Proposition" (I did that for specific reasons: Most managers will open something like that to see if it's legit, compared to "Want to make more money", etc) I wasn't the greatest sales guy back then, but now that I read it over, I lucked out and said the right things, Lol. I positioned it as a distributor for companies, that I would sell for them, give me at wholesale pricing. Most did not reply,
Step 2: I employed these emails left to right, different products that I felt would be easy to sell. I ended up clicking into one brand of outerwear that was becoming a style trend. (note: I did not pre-plan and all the crazy shit I must've done going on in your head right now).
I sent out about 20-30 emails before getting a proper response from this brand. Owner was very interested, specially the way I packaged it so that it fits HIS NEEDS, at no extra cost to him.
Step 3: Set up a distribution system, so that I can minimize my time involved and maximize my profit. Very important. You can do the work yourself, but you won't be able to make the maximum amount possible.
So what I did was 1) order large amounts of the product I thought would sell, the sizes and colors that were most popular, and went through craigslist, kijiji, etc.
Since Canadian winters make you freeze your b---s off, the product (jackets) began to sell. Product was in the higher price range, and the margins were pretty decent. Now the wholesalers would mark up the margins by 80-100%, what I then did was 2) I put it up for 50-60%, guess what happened.
Now I had market, people buying, so I did this 3) I found a partner, whose number I put up on the ad, he would deal with all the sales, pick up the products, sell them, bring me back cash.
Around Christmas time, we lit it up, I event got a call from the CEO saying slow down, the other wholesalers are angry, Lol. Which led me to end the free-for-all. F*cking ethics, Lol.
Good while it lasted, but in hindsight, I should've employed more network marketing. Oh well, you live you learn
.
"Now, that's great, how do I do that though?"
Well, get to thinking, why are you waiting for a handout?
Go find yourself a product through google, ebay, friends, anywhere basically. All you need is to come up with 2-3 products that people in your area need, find out if it can sell, and email every company in that market.
Look for high margin, easy to ship/move around.
Again, very simple stuff.
Things like jackets, clothing, energy drinks (buddy made some money off that in university dorm), laptops, lawncare, etc. may seem ridiculous but I've seen guys make good spare change once they have the distribution properly passive.
See what you can come up with.
Cheers.
