I was thinking about this yesterday as I was cleaning my house and wanted to share with everyone. I recently moved and was going through boxes that my household goods were packed in. I found an old shoebox filled with letters and cards that I've had for the past 13 years or so. Yes, I still send cards in this computer email driven age but not as much as before. So I was thinking due to the age of the internet, our art of writing handwritten letters is decreasing. We are so used to sending emails or using IM or texting people. Our time sitting down and writing letters has dropped, by what percentage, I'm not sure but I would imagine it's a high number.

This brings me to keeping contact with people we've done business with before. I send or try to send Christmas or Happy Holiday cards to realtors, property managers, and friends to maintain that relationship. A few I send emails to but this is primarily to property managers or friends. I came to realize we send little posts on Facebook or Twitter and other forums on what we're doing but that's not really maintaining your relationship with people you know. A few times if I travel to an area, I might call up a realtor or PM to let them know I'm in town and see if they want to do lunch. My comments are mainly about maintaining your TEAM. Some of these acts are essential if you want to continue doing business with your associates now or in the future. Building and maintaining your team is essential, almost necessary, to sustain and expand your business. Teamwork isn't something everyone learns since we are driven to do well in school, an individual effort. Some of us may have been exposed to working on a team in sports, games, and other activities. But, overall, teamwork isn't always learned. It takes time to build your team and earn their trust. Losing their trust can put you back and starting over takes up more and more of your time which you really don't have.
