Have a question for those of you who are great managers and also business owners. How do you hire and find amazing employees with incredible work ethics to match your own?
I've built my businesses by working my tail off. I'd rate my work ethic and intensity at about a 9 or 9.5 out 10. That's all well and good when I'm doing the work but I'm finding that I'm consistently bringing on employees who have an intensity scale and a work ethic of approx. 7 out of 10.
I end up becoming disappointed in them and/or they end up resenting me.
I don't think I should have to turn my intensity level off as this is the thing that's driven my business success. Why turn off one of your biggest strengths. Nobody outworks me.
That being said, I'm having management/leadership/hiring issues as a result of this focus and intensity I think. I expect others to do great work as well.
Maybe I'm not paying enough? Do you have to pay big bucks to get the right people? I mean if I pay 20% above the average salary is that how you get the best?
Maybe it's not the money that people want. Maybe you hire for the attitude and I just have to find people who are intense like me. Anybody have tips or suggestion?
At this point I feel like I need to reassess my approach. It's just not working.
