Market Evaluation Question

Here's the scenario. I found a keyword that generates 22000 local searches per month, but the competition is low. The only real competition is a single manufacturer of the product and they do sell directly from their website. They also sell through other websites, but none of these websites show up under this keyword search. The manufacturer itself ranks 4[SUP]th[/SUP] on Google behind some DIY sites. I believe I could rank on the first page with a little work. My question is, how would you start the evaluation process in this scenario to decide if this could be profitable? I'm going to contact the company to get more information (price, shipping, minimum order, etc.), but I'm just not sure what else I need to evaluate when dealing with such minimal competition.
