I have always sucked at marketing, so after I finished reading the Fast Lane book I knew that that was the area I needed to focus on if I was to get anywhere.
I have spent the past few weeks reading as much as I can from this forum and have devoured a number of books - Cashvertising, Tested advertising methods and Scientific Advertising primarily. I am now at the point where I need to start putting stuff into practice.
I have an iOS app that I have been writing in my spare time for the past few years. It has been in the App Store for almost 2 years now. Mostly it has just been sitting there making 1-2 sales per day. When I released the App I was expecting to just sit back and let the dollars roll in. Obviously that didn't happen, but I didn't know what else to do, so I just added a few more features. Programming is fun and what I know how to do.
Post Fast Lane training I have been in a dilemma. Since the app hasn't gone viral, does that mean there isn't a real need for it and pushing it further is just wasting my time? Or is it just that I haven't been marketing it at all, and given a push it could do well? The feedback I do get about the app is generally pretty positive and I have picked up a few very loyal and enthusiastic fans.
To find out the answers to this I am going to spend some time advertising it on Facebook to see what the response is. If nothing else it is good practice for my marketing and advertising skills.
So, the App is a trading simulator aimed largely at day traders - stocks and forex. After my Grandmother passed away a few years ago and left me some money, I decided to take up trading. Naturally I lost it all. I regrouped and realised that I didn't know what I was doing and needed to learn to trade properly. So I read what I could. But I didn't find a satisfactory solution for practicing what I was learning. So I decided to write my own.
Now I realise that there probably isn't a massive market for the app. There is a need, but at $6.99 there isn't enough of a need to make me rich. So I have been developing some ideas for how I can build a bit more of a sales funnel out of the app. I can create some educational and support services out of the back end that can create some recurring revenue. If this ad campaign proves the concept I will get to work developing this.
