Anyne who's' been on this planet for some time realizes. Human nature is strange… It's very hard to get our brains to obey us. Imagine if you you could just decide to do something, then do it. You decide you’re going to go on that diet or start that new startup and you just… do it. You tell yourself you’re going to work out daily and boom… your body doesn’t fight you. It just gets done. But again, anyone who hasn't been living in a hut in Indonesia realizes it’s not that simple. Our minds and body often fight us every inch of the way.
But what if it didn't have to be that way?
What if you had an idea that’s going to make you a shit-ton of money, and you just... do it. No procrastination. No fear of failure. It just gets done.
Well that's where IFS comes in. IFs will allow you to live your life like this.
The reason this happens is we have various parts with different desires. You have a part that wants to lose weight and a part that wants to gorge on cheesecake. The key to change is getting all these parts on the same page.
IFS is essentially like a blank check on behavior change. It gives you the ability to reprogram your mind. It will allow you to change pretty much any behavior, though pattern, or feeling. Imagine if your mind were written in a computer programming language. Your behaviors are all programmed in. IFS gives you the tools to understand and alter the code of your mind - allowing you to go in and change any programming you want.
But is it scientific? You bet your butt it is. Besides CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which is considered the Gold Standard of Behavioral Therapies) IFS is the only other method listed by the NREPP (United States National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices) as an evidence-based practice. An Evidence-based practice means it’s stood up against the most rigorous scientific scrutiny tests and passed muster.
But in my opinion, IFS is significantly more powerful than CBT - but for whatever reason it’s not as popular.
Some of the shit gets really deep. You tell it your problem, and it will spit back why you do that behavior. “I want to start ____ but every time I go to start it, I get distracted.” You think that something keeps coming up, and it just seems like there is so much going on that you can never get to it. But you dig a little deeper and it turns out that your distraction is a defense mechanism. You ask it why it keeps doing that and it says “I feel like if it’s not perfect people will think _____” And it will go even deeper than that
