Hello Fastlane!
My newest book I'm reading now is Meatball Sundae by Seth Godin.
The basic premise is that the meatball are average products, whereas, the sundae is the new marketing (web 2.0... youtube, viral, etc).
He argues that you cannot take the old products, services, and ways of marketing and simply "use 'New Marketing'" to increase your sales.
Seth argues that there are 14 principles of new marketing, and that you need to construct your business in a manner that takes advantage of these 14 principles, thus, achieving perfect harmony with New Marketing and web 2.0. You simply cannot stack the two on top of each other.
Many companies these days are asking "How can we use web 2.0 to increase sales," which is wrong question to ask in his opinion.
Successful companies are asking themselves "how can we design our company in a way that will take advantage of, and thrive with, New Marketing?"
It is a profound difference that results in hugely successful companies, and not so successful companies.
I will be getting into specifics of the book as I progress in reading it; so stay tuned fastlane!
* I also recommend Purple Cow by Seth Godin.
