I am not going to get into any aspect of the rights and wrongs or points of view on the Health Care plan they're considering passing.
For the purpose of this, let's just assume they do it. OK, what then? How is it possible to take advantage of what's coming in the years ahead?
I see many of the best docs breaking away from a system where they're forced to operate their business at a very low return or even a loss. They WILL find ways around it.
If this thing passes, I can see private medicine as a GREAT place to invest. There are lots of people who won't want any part of a government run HC system and they'll be willing to pay for their own HC in the same way many people pay to put their kids in private schools. There WILL BE money there.
Some docs will band together in co-ops that have small regional hospitals without ERs. They will cater to their own members exclusively. These small hospitals will create deals with other regional hospitals (you take out patients and we'll take yours) in the same way airlines form co-ops with each other.
If these types of things are then banned as attempts to circumvent the government mandated system, I see all this moving off-shore and MEDICAL TOURISM cranking up.
As a cancer survivor with plenty of passive income, I guarantee you I'd be willing to fly to Barbados if that's where the best American docs set up shop.
So, where do we fit in??? I think there are going to be partnerships set up to fund the creation of these hospitals and businesses. It may already be happening.
