Memorial Day

First I want to thank all current service people, Vets and let me not forget families, who have given their sacrifice and lives for this country. Mere words can't express everyone's gratitude for this honored profession.

Second, I was thinking about this this morning and wanted to know where did Memorial Day come from, so I googled it of course.

President Lyndon Johnson officially declared it a natioanl observance in May 1966. Over the years,people and states have started their own observances prior to President Johnson's declaration. Interested readers should check here for more information: Memorial Day History

At 3 PM local time, it's recommended to "voluntarily and informally" take a moment of silence to remember those who have given their lives. The "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was declared in December 2000 to reeducate and remind Americans on the true meaning of Memorial Day.
