I'm a huge fan of Richard Branson and after re-reading his autobiography I learned he examines every business opportunity to first see how boring it is. Then he decides how he's going to make things better/funner/faster/easier for the customer.
His first venture was a record shop which be built solely because the only place to buy records at the time was department stores. He built a place where listeners could enjoy their time and buy music. The airline industry in England was basically a monopoly until Branson arrived and shook everything up. He did something similar with Cell Phones and Soda, but the soda thing didn't work out as well as the others.
So I was thinking I could start a community wide brainstorm session about what industries (internet, retail, etc) are extremely boring and possibly even monopolistic where the customer isn't cared for.
I've been thinking about this myself and it's an interesting topic. The first thing that popped my mind was internet entrepreneur forums. Before the Fastlane, I belonged to multiple online business forums that we're very unorganzied and didn't have members with the same fastlane mentallity. I think the Fastlane Forums completely shook things up and its now a catergory of one.
I'll try to think of more later and I'll post back. But what do you think?!
