Hello all!
First of all, it's a pleasure to meet you all. Feels good to be in the same forum with so many enlightened souls.
I'm a 31 year old software developer and I've owned my own business since 2004. I've done development, consulting and maintenance on many dynamic websites, some for my clients and some for my own ventures of varying sizes.
Unfortunately, during this period, my own ventures were not really that successful. I dabbled in e-commerce for a long while but was unable to make any decent living out of it. I tried some other schemes as well, and still no go.
Along this process though, the skills I picked up on the way started to get me a lot of business as an individual contractor. And after a few years, my company is now making a decent amount of cash doing it.
Great, you say? I wish!
After reading through the book I've come to realize the awakening truth; the essence of this business is, most likely, slowlane. (Or maybe middle lane?? )
What I'm wondering is, while pursuing a Fastlane project (I have one in mind already) do you think it would somehow be possible to maintain such a business? Or maybe slowly phase it out. I realize that it's best to be married to our Fastlane business only but, it's really difficult to just throw away all that work. Yeah I know I sound very slowlane and I'm not really happy about it either.
I'm now going through the book a second time for notes and I'm almost done, but this point is still the only one really bothering me. Therefore, I decided to come down here and share this dilemma with you like minded individuals. I'm open to suggestions, debates and flames please fire away, but do try to be gentle.
Cheers!
