I launched my web service business 4 months ago. I'd weighed up a number of business ideas carefully against the CENTS criteria before settling on this. The end result is an extremely passive business, everything's automated. Now that the web service is built it takes about 5 hours a month of actual work to run and maintain.
A number of large Australian companies have already implemented my service on their web sites. I just logged on to one of them as a customer and it was amazing to see my product driving my user experience. The money is one thing, but to see that something I built from the ground up, marketed and sold, is being used by thousands of people a day is amazingly satisfying.
I have a day job, it's a prominent position at a well known global organization. The salary and the title would be enough to satisfy most, but there I'm still a cog in a much bigger machine. With my business I am the machine. Every sale I make for MY business is infinitely more satisfying than receiving a pay check.
I have plans to scale the service globally, first New Zealand, then I'm eyeing the US.
As it is I'm 28 and I already don't 'need' my day job, but I'm happy to keep it until my business has grown to a point that keeping my day job is hindering my fastlane journey.
To those still trying to get a start in their fastlane journey, find an existing business in an industry you understand that meets the CENTS criteria. Then do it better and make it cheaper.
Join the journey to the fastlane, you won't regret it.
